How to Save Hours of Time Generating Video Ideas

So now that you’ve decided to jump on the video train, you need some video ideas! Below, I’ve got 3 simple ways that can save you hours of your precious time coming up with video content.

These are perfect for whether you’re doing DIY video work or presenting your ideas to your videographer. Remember there are no bad ideas!! Well…

Here are some ways that you can save time generating video ideas.

Answer Commonly Asked Questions

Businesses and nonprofits get asked questions all the time. What if your customers had their questions answered before they even knew they had those questions… Ok, stay with me! I’ll explain.

As your customers research your product or service, naturally questions are going to arise. Researching camping gear, how does it perform in the rain? Researching cameras, is it easy to travel with? Researching flower bouquets, how long will they last?

It could even be simpler than that. Are you a CPA? How do I fill out a 1099? You have a bed and breakfast, where are you located? Oh, you come to my house and pick up all the dog poop, that’s nice, what do you do with it after you pick it up?

Save your customers’ energy and brain cells by providing answers to commonly asked questions so they don’t have to do all the research and emailing just to find out what you’re all about. It’s easy and you can create a TON of video content!

Keyword Search

Another way that you can save large amounts of time coming up with video ideas, is by doing a simple keyword search. Head over to YouTube and type in some keywords related to your industry or niche. Maybe you’re a photographer who wants to help beginner photographers. Type in camera tricks and see what pops up for photography camera tricks. Or maybe you’re good with electronics and you keyword something about setting up your smart home. Those searches will give you ideas on some good content to make.

This can be dicey because you DON’T want to COPY other people’s videos but YOU can CREATE similar type of content with your own personality and expertise.

Here are a couple ways you could take the keyword search a few steps further. When you see other videos on those topics, scan the comments section and look for questions that you could answer with your own video.

Also, there are plugins such as keywordseverywhere.com for Chrome and Firefox that will give you search volume and competition data for Google and YouTube. This will take some research on your part but it could be a very effective tool for creating content that is keyword driven and searchable.

Ask Your Audience

The third way you can save hours coming up video ideas is as simple as asking your audience or customers what type of videos they want to see. This usually is through social media but people will respond with what they want to know. It’s a great way to give your viewers a voice and let them know that they’re being heard.

A simple, “I’m looking to make some video content, what types of things do you want to know?” POST could go along way in generating ideas.

You could even narrow it down to specific parts of your business so that you don’t get a bunch of wild ideas. For example if you’re a real estate agent you could ask, “Are you looking to sell your house, what types of things do you want to know before you sell?”

Each comment or question you get, you turn into an easy quick piece of video content.

Let’s recap! Three ways that will save you hours generating video ideas are answering commonly asked questions, keyword searches and simply asking your audience what they want to see and hear.
