7 Reasons Why You Should be Using Video Testimonials

Testimonials have been a part of advertising for years. Almost any website you visit has a testimonial section, a place where you can hear from an “actual customer.” Usually, those consist of a sentence or two in quotation marks that you have to read, or as most of us do, NOT READ.

Like this:

“Wow. They installed my countertops in one hour.” - Mrs. Non-excitement

“I can’t think of a better donut.” - Mr. Boring-text

“This company really knows what they are doing.” - Sally Mc-No-Emotional-Response

Video Testimonials introduce a whole new dimension to the testimonial game. I’ve got seven reasons why you should be using video testimonials to communicate with your audience.

If you’re in a time crunch and can’t read this whole post, here they are:

  1. See and Hear From a ‘Real’ Person.

  2. Create an Emotional Response.

  3. Increase Web Traffic

  4. Retention Rate

  5. The Trust Factor

  6. The Share Factor

  7. Increase Conversion Rates

Now, here’s the nitty gritty.

See and Hear From a ‘REAL’ Person

It’s great to read a quote from someone but in all reality, how do we know it’s a real person or their actual words. With video, you can see and hear that real person who is speaking. You can see their body language or the expression on their face when they talk about your business.

The experience they had working with you, if it was a good one, will come across in how they act when they talk about how you improved their lives. People will see that and connect. Video testimonials will help humanize your product or service.

Create an Emotional Response

We are emotional creatures! We’re always going to react to a good story. We have happy tears, sad tears, smiles, racing hearts, laughter, or anger when we connect with someone or something. Video testimonials can bring out those emotions.

Increased Web Traffic

You’ll see increased web traffic in two areas when you use video testimonials: website and social media.

Having video testimonials on your website will keep people on your website longer. They’ll watch one video testimonial and then check out another one and so on. This is especially true if they are done well and tell a good story. After they’re done watching and convinced your service is good for them, they’ll click your call to action button.

The other area is increased traffic on social media. Everything from YouTube to Instagram, you’ll see an increase in watch time and an increase in engagement. I’ll touch on this a bit later but social media shares are huge for growth and video testimonials are a great piece of shareable content.

Retention Rate

It is plastered all over the inter-webs that video has a 95% retention rate. So much of what is seen on the internet are passive pieces of content. That means they see it, scroll on and forget about it. However, video testimonials are NOT passive.

People remember what they see in videos like this and are more likely to return to it or remember your brand when talking with others. They stay on the testimonial for longer viewing times and remember more of what’s in the video, especially if it tells a good story.

The Trust Factor

Video testimonials are a great way to build trust with your audience. As stated above, these type of videos have a real ability to humanize your brand. People are looking for that human or personal connection with a company.

Think about this, how many times have you searched reviews for a product before purchasing a product online? Video testimonials are a viewable review from a ‘real’ person. I’ve actually seen marketing studies that say in some cases, consumers trust reviews from strangers more than their own family members or friends. WHAT A TIME TO BE ALIVE!!

The Share Factor

For starters, videos overall are the most shared form of content on the web. Then when you add all the elements we’ve been talking about in this blog, it’s an amazing recipe for shareable content. If someone connects with what they watch, they are going to share it with the people they know.

There’s another element to this as well. For the people in the videos, they are going to share it with their social communities as a “look at me, I’m in a video” moment. Their moms, other family and friends will see it and the share the heck out of it!

Increase in Conversion Rates

Having a good call to action with your video testimonial will increase your conversion rates. People buy from whom they trust. People buy from whom they connect with. Audiences will connect with your video testimonials and ultimately buy your products.

Social media shares will lead to website views then will lead to buy now clicks.

A video testimonial on a product landing page can help the viewer make a purchase decision after they see how it changed someone else’s life.

In summary, video testimonials can be a powerful player in your marketing strategy. They are authentic pieces of content that can be used in several different ways and on multiple platforms to make a genuine connection with your audience.
